The live event took place on April 10, 2003 in Booth Auditorium, Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley.

This year, Dr. Kenneth Prewitt was the distinguished speaker. Dr. Kenneth Prewitt was Director of the United States Census Bureau from 1998 to 2001, where he was responsible for Census 2000 -- often described as the largest peacetime mobilization in history. He has recently joined the faculty of Columbia University after spending two years as Dean of New School University's Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Science. Prior to that time, Dr. Prewitt served as President of the Social Science Research Council, Senior Vice President of the Rockefeller Foundation and Director of the National Opinion Research Center. He has authored a dozen books, numerous publications, and has served on advisory boards to the World Bank, the World Health Organization, and UNESCO.
